Dominican Republic villas

A region once named Punta de Borrachón was merged with Punta Cana by the founding investors in 1969. Europeans, particularly the Spanish, tend to own the resorts of Punta Cana. Resort architects have been likely to make some nod to Spain or colonial Mexico. Areas bordering Punta Cana include Cabeza de Toro, Cabo Engaño and, further west, Juanillo. The coastline tends to be mildly windy. The ocean waters are mainly shallows, with several natural marine pools in which visitors can bathe.

North to South the main beaches are: Playa de Arena Gorda, Playa Bavaro, Playa Ubero Alto, Playa Macao, Playa de El Cortecito - all north of the cape - and Cabeza de Toro, Cabo Engaño, Punta Cana, Juanillo - south of the cape.

Punta Cana has one of the busiest and best connected airports in the region (the Punta Cana International Airport), serving about two million tourists per year and sometimes receiving more flights than the Santo Domingo airport, Las Américas International Airport. Punta Cana is considered the major resort area in the Dominican Republic. Several professional golf courses have been built in the region. The nightlife inside the resorts is very lively. Outside of the hotels, several small plazas and discotheques allow tourists to interact with local residents.

Some great coral reefs and mangrove swamps and sand dunes enable great scenics views. The island comprises mountainous country, farmland, rain forest, and desert.

The nation has more than 1,000 miles of white sand.

Golf Courses in the nation have been designed by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Nick Faldo. The Las Aromas Golf Club
and Jarabacoa Golf Club are among some of the best known golf courses of the nation.

Cabarete Bay is a bay on the northern coastline of the Dominican Republic. The bay is formed by a barrier coral reef and is a popular destination for surfers and divers, Increased development of the city of Cabarete and deforestation of upland regions has resulted in increased urban and sediment runoff into the bay and impacted the health of the coral reefs


North East Coast best beaches include Cayo Levantado, Las Terrenas, Playa Bonita, Playa Las Flechas, and Playa Rincon

Well known beaches on the South Central Coast are Boca Chica, Playa Juan Dolio, Playa Guayacanes.
The South West Coast includes Playa Pedernales and San Rafael. The South West coast has many grey sand beaches.


The country is a tropical, maritime nation. Wet season is from May to November, and periodic hurricanes between June and November. Most rain falls in the northern and eastern regions.

According to the World Tourism Organization, the Dominican Republic is the Caribbean's number one tourist destination.

The Dominican peso (DOP) is the national currency of the country, although US dollars (USD) are accepted at most tourist sites.

Dominican Republic cuisine is predominantly made up of a combination of Spanish, Taino and African influences over the last few centuries. Typical cuisine is quite similar to what can be found in other Latin American countries but, many of the names of dishes differ.

Musically, the Dominican Republic is known for the creation of Merengue music, a type of lively, fast paced rhythm and dance music consisting of a tempo of about 120 to 160 beats per minute (it varies wildly) based on musical elements like drums, brass and chorded instruments, as well as some elements unique to the music style of the DR, such as the marimba.
